SURVIVOR

This summer the theme was Survivor, it was a spin off of the TV show.

Over the 11 weeks of the summer, the staff was placed in different "tribes" and throughout the week the staff would work together and try to gain points for their tribe. They could gain points by trying to find a hidden Immunity Emulate, learning their memory verse for the week or answering the solitude questions  and at the end of the week they would do a group activity to see which tribe won for that week.

It was amazing to see each of the staff work together and build each other up. Our goal was exactly that, it was to get the staff to relay on each other so that when they are struggling or need help outside of Sky Lodge they can look to each other to left each other up.

ILLUMINATE
Philippians 2:14-16 (NIV)
Do everything without grumbling or arguing, so that you may become blameless and pure, “children of God without fault in a warped and crooked generation.” Then you will shine among them like stars in the sky as you hold firmly to the word of life. And then I will be able to boast on the day of Christ that I did not run or labor in vain.

HEAVEN ON EARTH
close blue (2).png

We can "hold on until Jesus comes and makes things right" or we can "get on with making things right here and now."

When Jesus taught us how to pray he said, "Thy Kingdom come, Thy will be done, on earth as it is in Heaven."  This prayer gave us hope that better things were coming, but I don't think it ends there.  This prayer is also an invitation to be part of bringing that kingdom to the here and now.

This summer we dove in and explored 7 practical ways we can bring the Kingdom of Heaven to the here and now.

SENT

This summer our theme is SENT coming from the Great Commission in Matthew 28:19-20

"Therefore, go and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit. Teach these new disciples to obey all the commands I have given you. And be sure of this: I am with you always, even to the end of the age.”

The 12 disciples provide great example of how we should and shouldn't live as disciples of Jesus.  Our goal is to dive deep into learning about and understanding what it means to be a disciple.  We are called to do much greater things than just follow; we are SENT out to share the good news with anyone and everyone who will hear it!

LIFE BY THE SPIRIT

This summer our theme was “Life by the Spirit”, coming from Galatians 5:13-26:

"You, my brothers and sisters, were called to be free. But do not use your freedom to indulge the flesh; rather, serve one another humbly in love.  For the entire law is fulfilled in keeping this one command: “Love your neighbor as yourself.” If you bite and devour each other, watch out or you will be destroyed by each other.

So I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh. For the flesh desires what is contrary to the Spirit, and the Spirit what is contrary to the flesh. They are in conflict with each other, so that you are not to do what ever you want. But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the law.

The acts of the flesh are obvious: sexual immorality, impurity and debauchery; idolatry and witchcraft; hatred, discord, jealousy, fits of rage, selfish ambition, dissensions, factions and envy; drunkenness, orgies, and the like. I warn you, as I did before, that those who live like this will not inherit the kingdom of God.

But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law. Those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires. Since we live by the Spirit, let us keep in step with the Spirit. Let us not become conceited, provoking and envying each other."

For the nine weeks that we are together, we will learn all about the nine fruits of the spirit: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. Our goal will be to dive deep into learning about and understanding what it means to live life by the spirit, while putting what we have learned into action.

Sticking with our theme, each week we played a fruity game on Sunday night. Click below to see the pictures from the weekly activity and other work around camp!

THIRST

We thirst for a lot of things. How many of us crave a name on the list of high scores, perfect grades, a text from that one boy, a can of soda, or maybe somehting more intense like the rush that comes her kiss, the power that comes from harming your body, the release and freedom of drugs or alcohol, or the high you get from looking at pornography. We crave a lot of things as humans. We have a strong thirst for something... but nothing seems to satisfy.

In John 4:1-26 Jesus is speaking to a Samaritan woman at a public well. He explains that He is the Living water. Until we figure that out, our thirst can only be temporarily satisfied.

We had lots of fun playing with water.  Each week we had a new challenge involving water. (Sorry not every week has a photo or video to watch)

ONE BODY

We have all been born with a multitude of natural talents. As Christians we have been gifted with a variety of talents we call “spiritual gifts,” and that is what we will be spending a lot of time on this summer. What does it mean to have a spiritual gift, how does God want us to use them, and how we can use them to help each other. That is some of what we will be exploring this summer. In light of all our many diverse talents, we will keep Paul’s words in mind when he says: “The body is a unit, though it is made up of many parts; and though all its parts are many, they form one body. So it is with Christ.” (1 Corinthians 12:12)

Omada Pentathelon

Here is a slideshow of the winning teams from our Omada Pentathelon.  Omada means team, and Pentathelon is a 5 event competition.  The challenge was to divide the 5 events amongst your group members according to each member's strengths.  We all have skills and talents, and we work best when everyone is using their talents.

OUR STORY

Our theme this summer is based on the idea that we can learn a lot from the experiences of those around us, and from those who have come before us. That is why we decided to spend so much time looking at the Bible in its entirety. It is also why each of the Foremen are sharing their testimonies this summer.

Each week we will be posting three items. The first of them being a story based on our theme for the week. We also publish a newsletter each week, full of pictures and news of events from the week. We also will be uploading a video of each weeks team activity which involves rewriting a familiar childhood story to create an epic new saga.

Our Story

A weekly adventure through the stories of our anscestors. The Bible is full of mystery, love, adventure, devastating loss, and incredilbe salvation. This is a summary and an overview of our shared story.

Team Sagas

Each week our teams worked to rewrite part of a familiar story in a rather unusual way. We hope you enjoy the results as much as we do.

IN HIS IMAGE

What does it mean to put on the new self? Paul uses the analogy of a seed. Our earthly bodies are like seeds, and slowly we grow and become a plant, which is like our heavenly bodies. Commenting on Colosians 3:5, John Wesley said that “put to death” means to “slay with a continued stroke.” In other words, while God's transforming work is decisive, it is also perpetual. We are being renewed day by day, transformed from one degree of God's glory to another. So we must die to self daily, and constantly put away evil. This is both our privilege and responsibility as those who bear the image of Christ.

Check out the happenings from the week, photos of all the fun, the staff outing, and a great message from the dean.

Each week our teams competed to see who could come up with the most creative pictures for our photo scavenger list. The winning photos are posted here in a pdf formate.
