Foreman Positions
Eligible
applicants for these supervisory positions should have completed their
first year in college or have been out of high school for 1 year by the start date. The main goal of this position is
to guide high school staff into deeper relationships with Christ through
discipleship. Foremen are responsible for providing this positive role
model through service and free time interaction with the high school
staff. The foremost responsibility is to create and guard an
atmosphere in which following Christ is the overriding focus. In
addition to building relationships with the high school staff, foremen
prepare crew devotions three days a week, plan activities for the high
school staff, lead cabin prayer, and become growth partners
with a crew member.
General Responsibilities:

Barn:
Feed, water, and saddle
horses, guide trail rides, clean barn, maintain horse trails.

Hitching Post:
Set up and run the hitching post, clean and restock supplies in cabin and
chapel/recreation building bathrooms, clean camp vehicles.

Kitchen: Assist in food
preparation, set up and clean dining area and serving room before and after meals, wash
dishes for next meal.

Lifeguard: Set up and guard
pool during open swims, swim-test campers, clean public restrooms, sweep sidewalks.

Specific Responsibilities

Give and supervise trail
rides.

Keep the trail rides on
schedule.

Operate a safe instruction
area.

Feed and water the horses.

Prepare 5 days of ½ hour
horse instruction.

See that fences and corrals
are kept in proper order and repair.

Position: Maintenance Foreman

Responsibilities

Assist in
supervising the maintenance crew throughout the day.

Work along with
the crew, making sure work is of good quality.

Be involved in
a periodic review of the responsibilities list.

Keep storage
areas clean, making sure everything is put away after it is used.

Report anything
that is broken or damaged to the Maintenance Director.
-
Keep the lawn
areas mowed and trimmed.
-
Remove burnable
trash to the burn pile and recyclables to the storage area.
-
Empty outside
trash barrels and pop receptacles all around the camp.

Kitchen
Foreman

Responsibilities
-
Food
preparation:
-
Check the list of "things to be done" before you start working.
-
Closely
follow the recipe and/or direction of the Food Service Director (FSD).
-
Carefully
follow the guidelines concerning sanitation while preparing foods.
-
Supervise and instruct high school staff when assigned by the FSD.
-
Serving meals:
-
Adhere to standardized proportions.
-
When dishing up plate of food, make sure that people are treated cordially.
-
Cleanliness:
- Safety:
- Keep working areas and equipment in a clean and sanitary condition (i.e.
kitchen, dish area, walk-in coolers).
- Use chemicals, etc. appropriately.
- Assist in the care and maintenance of equipment.
-
Washing dishes:
-
Carefully follow instructions for operation of the dish machine.
-
Check the temperature of the machine periodically.
-
Check sanitizer and drying agent. Change
as needed.
-
Delegate area responsibilities to insure efficient functioning of dish
machine.
-
Wash hands thoroughly in the hand washing sink in between touching dirty
dishes and clean dishes.
-
Store dishes, silverware, pots and pans in appropriate manner and
places.
-
Clean dish area at the end of each meal.

Dining room:

Wash tables with disinfectant solution.
-
Make sure each table has a properly filled napkin holder, salt and
pepper shakers, silverware holder, cups and table sign.

Sweep and mop.

Responsibilities
-
Be responsible for training and supervising scheduled workers.

Collect and record camper money in the registration line and dispense
early bird shirts for Free Methodist sessions.
-
See that all approved procedures are carried out for the opening,
operation, and closing of the snack shop during scheduled hours.
-
See that only scheduled workers are behind the counter.
-
Make sure snack shop workers are aware of extra responsibilities during
slow times, such as cleaning and restocking.
-
Keep snack shop neat and orderly at all times.
- Make sure campers’ financial records are properly and accurately kept
and all monies returned at the end of each week.
-
Follow approved procedures for keeping inventory up to date.
-
Follow proper procedures for filling the pop machines.
-
Wash laundry.
-
Keep motel
laundry room neat and clean.
-
Clean the
public buildings and meeting rooms.
-
Report any
damage or vandalism to the Housekeeping Supervisor.
-
Keep work and

Coordinate all
activities at the pool working in cooperation with the camp director.

Administer and
instruct staff in swimming pool policies and procedures.

Be responsible
for the health, safety, and welfare of the life guarding staff.

Be responsible
for the safety of campers, staff, and guests whenever they are engaged in
any activity in the pool area.
-
Supervise
the
safety
of
the
canoe
dock
area.
-
See that the
posted pool guidelines are followed.
-
Train all life
guards in the use of emergency procedures.
-
Test campers
for swimming ability at the beginning of camp sessions and regulate their
pool activities according to their abilities.
-
Watch for
fatigued or ill swimmers.
-
Check
life-saving equipment and keep in good order.
Have rescue equipment handy at all times.
-
Always be ahead
of time when opening waterfront areas.
-
Test and
maintain proper chemical levels and cleanliness.
-
Keep public
washrooms neat and clean through the day.
-
Work on
projects, as discussed with camp director, when pool is closed.

Help develop and maintain a friendly, helpful atmosphere and see that
the office is kept a place of business.

and route phone calls to proper departments.

Answer or route front desk questions to proper departments.

Schedule and collect fees for public horse rides.

Spruce the lodge and clean the office area.
-
Help keep coffee and condiment area clean and replenished.
-
Keep shelves neat and orderly at all times.
-
General office and receptionist duties.
-
Make best use of time-- cleaning, restocking, folding, water
plants, etc.

Follow
proper procedures in working with the cash register and keys.
-
Make sure
shelves are well stocked with inventory.

Hitching Post Director in making sure campers’ financial records are

Specific Responsibilities

Possibly counsel for the
Free Methodist residential youth camps.

Participate in
all counselor training activities.

During
non-counseling weeks, assist in the service of guest groups.
-
Help prepare
the program areas as needed before each camp session opens.
-
See that the
program areas are kept clean and in good order.
-
Facilitate a
successful, happy learning experience for the campers in the program areas.
-
Teach classes
during instruction times as assigned.
-
Operate safe
instruction areas.
-
Give campers
top priority at all times.
-
Help repair
equipment as needed.
- Give
any ideas for the program areas to the Camp Director for next summer.
- Be open and sensitive the
opportunities to challenge and influence campers spiritually.

During the Free Methodist youth camps, be responsible
for taking a lot of pictures of campers in a variety of camp settings.

during the rest of the summer.)

Camper Park Foreman

Additional Qualifications

Must be able to defuse situations which will hinder
camper park safety and enjoyment and then report actions to the Camp
Director.

Must be able to deal with questions, concerns and
criticisms in a positive, productive manner.

Enjoys working with their hands, physical labor and
problem solving.
-
Good phone and people skills.
-
Experience in handling money responsibly.
-
Red Cross certified lifeguard with current Red Cross
CPR certification. (Class
offered at Sky Lodge at the beginning of June.)
Specific Responsibilities
-
Supervise the weekend staff in the service of the Sky
Lodge camper park throughout the weekend. (This means staying behind while the Zone staff goes on a
staff outing.)
-
Perform retreat duties according to camper park
schedule (open snack shop, lifeguard, give hayrides, etc.)
-
Communicate with camper park residents concerning
weekend schedule, general logistics, etc.
-
Open and close recreational areas as schedule or
weather permits.
-
Feed and water the horses during the weekend.
-
Work along with the crew, making sure work is of good
quality.
-
Empty the garbage cans at each camper park site and in
the public areas according to the camper park schedule.
-
Remove burnable trash to the burn pile and recyclables
to the storage area.

Maintain the cleanliness of the public buildings and
retreat buildings in use during the weekend.
-
Test and maintain proper chemical levels and
cleanliness of the pool.
-
Make sure the pool cover is on the pool before leaving
for the day.
-
Maintain a friendly, helpful atmosphere and see that
the office is kept a place of business throughout the weekend.
-
Answer and route phone calls to proper departments when
on duty.

General office and receptionist duties.

Schedule and collect fees for public horse rides.

Follow proper procedures in working with the cash

During the week pump out the sewage tanks in the camper
park and assist the Maintenance Director or Camp Director with current
