Emily Holverson I chose to invest my life in camping because I know what a difference it has made in my life and have watched it impact the lives of so many others. Camp is a place to get away, to rest, have fun and to experience the wonder of God's creation. It's a place where everyday worries and problems take a break. It's in that environment that often we hear God speak. Helping provide a place for kids and students and adults to come get away from everything and be with God is a privilege and something I am grateful to be a part of at Sky Lodge. I attended Junior Camp when I was in 6th grade.
I loved it! I made new friends, got to ride horses, and do all sorts of fun
things as well as re-committed my life to God. The next year, I went to Young
Teen Camp. For a variety of reasons, I did not have a good experience, and
actually didn't return to Sky Lodge until Snowfest when I was 16. After that, I
fell in love with Sky Lodge all over again and wound up spending 9 weeks when I
was 17. Through that time and later through counseling, I have come to
recognize that it's a place where God always shows up, and I'm always in a
better state to listen. The beauty of His creation abounds there and nothing
like sitting and resting in His presence. Because of my one negative
experience, I try hard to make sure our counselors understand their
responsibility and potential impact and to help them encourage unified cabins. |
